Statewide Washington coordination

Process server in Washington

Washington’s civil rule allows a broad set of servers, and the state’s geography splits service between the Puget Sound metro and everything east of the mountains.

How do I get started?
Submit the request online — it takes a few minutes and documents can be attached — or call and we will open it with you.

Nothing here guarantees a service outcome; results depend on the defendant, the address, and the court's requirements.

Jurisdiction

What Washington service requires

Washington sets who may serve, how process is delivered, and what the return has to show. The venue named in the filing decides how that record is read.

Who may serve. CR 4 allows service by the sheriff or by any person over eighteen who is not a party to the action.

Method. Personal delivery, or delivery at the defendant’s dwelling to a resident of suitable age and discretion, with mailing where the rule requires it to complete service.

Proof. The server files an affidavit of service stating the facts. Washington courts examine whether the mailing that completes abode service is documented.

Mountains matter

A Snoqualmie Pass closure can invalidate a scheduled attempt. Mountain routes are planned with alternate dates.

Execution

How a Washington assignment runs

One protocol, adjusted for the court, the address type and the defendant.

  1. Intake

Case details, defendant information, service address, and documents are captured in one request.

  2. Jurisdiction routing

The assignment is matched to the venue, county, and precinct responsible for that address.

  3. Attempts & logs

Each attempt is recorded: date, time, address description, access conditions, and contact outcome.

  4. Escalation

Where personal service fails, substitute service or a diligence record for alternative service is prepared.

  5. Proof delivered

When service is completed, a signed, sworn affidavit of service documents the applicable recipient, date, time, location and method of service. When service is unsuccessful, a signed, sworn affidavit of non-service or due diligence documents the attempts, circumstances, findings and unsuccessful outcome. Both are executed under penalty of perjury and prepared in accordance with the applicable jurisdiction's execution and filing requirements.
