Nevada process

Serve papers in Nevada

Serving papers in Nevada is a sequence, not a single visit. Nevada Rules of Civil Procedure Rule 4 defines the permitted methods, and the attempts before a substituted method are what make it hold.

Assignment basics

Can you serve these documents?
Summons and complaints, subpoenas, eviction notices, family court filings, protective orders, and post-judgment enforcement documents. See document categories
Do you cover my service location?
Yes — Nevada is inside our coordinated coverage. The court named on your documents, the service address and any service instructions are reviewed before the assignment is confirmed.
How quickly can the assignment begin?
Assignments are opened after intake review. Rush and emergency coordination are available and confirmed when the assignment is accepted.
What will it cost?
Quotes are based on jurisdiction, access complexity, time sensitivity, defendant difficulty, and documentation requirements. How pricing works
What do I need to provide?
Service address, defendant name and type, case and court information, any deadline, and the documents to be served.
How do I get started?
Submit the request online — it takes a few minutes and documents can be attached — or call and we will open it with you.

Nothing here guarantees a service outcome; results depend on the defendant, the address, and the court's requirements.

The rule

What Nevada Rules of Civil Procedure Rule 4 controls

Three questions decide whether service in this state is valid, and each has a specific answer.

Who may serve. Nevada limits service to the persons its rule authorizes. In some states that is a sheriff or constable, in others a private server appointed by the court, and in others a licensed professional. The permitted category is confirmed per county before an attempt is scheduled.

How it may be delivered. Personal delivery and abode service are the common baselines. Substituted service, posting, mailing and publication each require their own authority, and several require a court order first.

What proves it. The return or affidavit is the evidence. It is written in the terms Nevada courts expect, describing the person served, the address used and the manner of delivery.

Sequence matters

Where a state allows substituted service after diligent attempts, the earlier attempts are not wasted visits — they are the foundation of the substituted method.

Execution

How a Nevada service assignment runs

The same lifecycle applies statewide; the county and the court set the specifics.

  1. Intake

Case details, defendant information, service address, and documents are captured in one request.

  2. Jurisdiction routing

The assignment is matched to the venue, county, and precinct responsible for that address.

  3. Attempts & logs

Each attempt is recorded: date, time, address description, access conditions, and contact outcome.

  4. Escalation

Where personal service fails, substitute service or a diligence record for alternative service is prepared.

  5. Proof delivered

When service is completed, a signed, sworn affidavit of service documents the applicable recipient, date, time, location and method of service. When service is unsuccessful, a signed, sworn affidavit of non-service or due diligence documents the attempts, circumstances, findings and unsuccessful outcome. Both are executed under penalty of perjury and prepared in accordance with the applicable jurisdiction's execution and filing requirements.

Practice

What actually decides a NV attempt

The rule is the floor. These are the variables that determine whether the attempt lands and the record holds.

Access at the address

Locked lobbies, gated communities, doormen and rural gates decide whether a server can reach the door. Each is recorded.

Timing against the deadline

Attempts are scheduled against the response date in the filing, not against how many visits a vendor prefers to bill.

Address quality

A wrong or stale address consumes the attempt window. Verification is part of the assignment where the address is uncertain.

The person who accepts

Abode service depends on who answered and whether they live there. That relationship is described, not assumed.

Serving a specific document type follows the same rule with a different filing behind it. See documents served in Nevada or the Nevada hiring page.
